The growing number of children with an incarcerated parent represents the most significant collateral consequences of the record U.S prison population. There are more than 2.7 million children with parents in prison in the United States. That’s 1 in 28 children. That’s 3.6% of all kids in the U.S. population.
As loved ones of the incarcerated it’s important to voice our concerns by keeping in contact with lawmakers. Follow a few common-sense guidelines when lobbying your positions and your efforts will be more productive and less frustrating.
